Dominican Republic! :)


Dominican Republic is located on the island of Hispaniola, east of Haiti between the Caribbean and Atlantic Ocean and makes part of the Greater Antilles. It is shaped in the form of an irregular triangle which its size is approximately 48,670 square kilometers. Is a mountainous country divided by mountain ranges into three regions; northern, central, and southwestern and has a tropical climate with seasonal temperature variation, which is good for tourism. That is one of the things that this country is best known for.

      The two major countries are: 
                                                           
Santo Domingo- Capital city.

Santiago de los Caballeros- second largest city.
Population: 9,956, 648.

- death rate: 4.35 of 1,000 population. 
- life expectancy for the whole population is 77.31 years; for male is 75.16 years and female 79.55 years.
- unemployment rate: 14.2%
- Population below poverty line: 42.2%

Main Language: Spanish
Religion: 95% of the population are Roman Catholic and the other 5% are protestants, evangelicals, and others.
Ethnic Groups: 73% mixed, 16% white, and 11% black.

National Sport: Baseball

Government 
- Democratic Republic; executive, legislative, and judicial in which the president serve for four years and can be reelected.
- Suffrage (voting rights): over 18 or married. Members of armed forces or national police cant vote.
- Legal system: is based on French civil codes and criminal procedures code.
- Current president: Leonel Fernandez Reyna that have served the country since 2004.

Education
- Include six years of primary education, other additional six years of secondary education, and higher education. School life expectancy from primary to tertiary education for women is 13 years and for men 11 years.

Its military service consist of army, navy, and air forces. From age 16- 21 is obligatory to serve in the military.

Communication Sources include telephones; mobile and main lines, internet, and broadcast media.The main sources of making money are tourism, sugar processing, gold mining, textiles, cement and agriculture of sugarcane, coffee, tobacco,cotton, cocoa, rice, beans, potatoes, corn, bananas, cattle, pigs, and beef eggs, which then are exported.

Some transnational issues occurring on Dominican Republic are the trafficking of men, women, and children for commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor including making them servants. Dominican Women are trafficked into prostitution and sexual exploitation in western Europe, Australia, Central and South America,and others. And other issue is illicit drugs that are trafficked from one place to another.
